The Pewter finish

Pewter gives this pendant a quieter, more muted look than the collection's brighter nickel or warmer brass options. The soft grey metal tone sits well against the clear glass panels and works in kitchens and dining spaces finished in warm wood, painted cabinetry or brushed metal fittings.

How it works

This pendant holds three E14 bulbs, arranged around a steel frame with candle style sleeves and clear bent glass panels. Bulbs are not supplied, so you will need to add these to your order. It hangs on an adjustable chain, letting you set the drop anywhere between 42.2cm and 199.3cm to suit your space. It is wired to Class I, which means it must be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

Its compact scale suits breakfast tables, kitchen islands, smaller dining spaces and stairwells, where a traditional pendant look is wanted on a modest scale. Because the chain allows such a long drop, it also works well over kitchen islands and stairs with higher ceilings, where a fixed length pendant would not reach.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, when Phil R. Hinkley started out making outdoor lanterns, with just fourteen designs in his first catalogue. Traditional, candle inspired shapes like the ones on this Gentry pendant trace back to that early lantern making work. Stanley Wiedemer took over the business in stages through the 1930s, buying the remaining half after Phil's death in 1937 and moving his own family to Cleveland to run it, and the company has stayed under Wiedemer family leadership ever since. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, wiring fittings like this one for 220 to 240V supplies with full CE certification.
