The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. A crystal flush fitting like Gemma is a long way from those early lanterns, and that distance says something about how far the company has grown since. The Wiedemer family has owned and run Hinkley since Stanley Wiedemer took over the business in the 1930s, through three generations and into a fourth, who began taking on leadership roles around 2000. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs, Gemma included, for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
