An open cage silhouette scaled for a proper entrance
The Fulton collection takes a stripped back, vintage industrial look, and this 13 light version is the largest piece in the range. There is no glass anywhere in the design. Thirteen square candle sleeves sit openly around a tapered, H shaped steel frame, so the fitting reads as an open cage rather than a solid shape. It is also a genuinely large fixture, with a drop that adjusts from 146.4cm up to 237.9cm, built for a hallway, stairwell or entrance hall with real height to fill.
Bronze steel, left open and honest
The frame is mild steel, finished in Bronze. There is no shade or diffuser hiding the structure, so the metal itself, its joints and its tapered lines, is the whole design. It sits well against stone, brick, timber or a painted wall, and pairs naturally with other aged metal finishes like iron, blackened steel or antique brass elsewhere in an entrance hall.
How it works
This chandelier takes thirteen E27 bulbs, sold separately, held in exposed square candle sleeves rather than shades. It hangs from the ceiling on chain, and the drop can be adjusted between 146.4cm and 237.9cm to suit your ceiling height. It works with dimmable bulbs if you want to lower the light level, though the fitting itself has no built in dimmer. It is a Class I fitting, which means it must be earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
Given its scale, this is a fitting for a genuine foyer, hallway or stairwell with a high ceiling, rather than a standard sized room. Hung above a staircase or in a double height entrance, its open frame reads well from below and from a landing above. It also suits a large dining room with enough headroom to let the drop extend fully.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley started out in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. A piece on the scale of this Fulton chandelier is a long way from that first collection. The Wiedemer family took over not long after Phil Hinkley's death in 1937 and has run the company across four generations since, including Rick Wiedemer Jr, who joined in 1969 for a career spanning fifty years. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
