The Freeport Single Small Wall Lantern brings Hinkley's New England style outdoor lighting down to a size that suits a modest porch, garden wall or side entrance. It shares the same traditional lantern shape as the rest of the Freeport range, just scaled back so it doesn't overwhelm a smaller space.

Textured black with seeded glass

This lantern is finished in Textured Black over a weather resistant composite body, paired with clear seeded glass panels. The dark finish and slightly textured glass give it a traditional, understated look that works well against brick, render or painted timber. It's also available in Textured White, and in Medium and Large sizes if you need a different scale or finish.

How it works

This is a single bulb wall lantern designed for exterior wall mounting. It takes one E27 LED bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one to your order. The fitting is Class I, which means it requires an earthed connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, this small lantern is built to cope with UK weather, making it suitable for porches, entrances and other covered or exposed outdoor spots. Its smaller scale makes it a good fit for narrower porches, cottage style doorways or garden walls, where a full sized lantern would look out of proportion.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started out in Cleveland, Ohio in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley set up a small outdoor lantern maker with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. A compact fitting like this small Freeport lantern sits close to that original idea: modestly scaled outdoor lighting, done properly. The Wiedemer family took over the business in the 1930s and have run it ever since, with Stanley's grandson Rick joining in 1969 and a fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric, taking on leadership roles from around 2000. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.

Is this lantern dimmable? Yes, it works with dimmable LED bulbs. If you fit a bulb that isn't dimmable, it won't dim on a dimmer switch.

Does it come with a bulb? No, this fitting takes one E27 LED bulb which isn't supplied, so you'll need to add one separately.

Can I install this myself? We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's a Class I fitting, which means it requires an earthed connection.
