A larger take on the Freeport lantern

This is the large size in Hinkley's Freeport wall lantern range, built to hold its own on bigger doorways, garages and taller garden walls. It keeps the collection's New England styling but with more presence, so it reads well from further away and balances a larger facade.

Textured White finish

The body is finished in Textured White over a weather resistant composite, paired with clear seeded glass panels. The seeded texture in the glass softens the light without hiding it, and the white finish works well against brick, render or painted timber.

How it works

This lantern takes one E27 LED bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one to your order. It's dimmable if you fit a dimmable bulb. It's designed for wall mounting outside, with a back plate that covers the wiring point. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, this lantern is built to handle the weather and is suited to sheltered or moderately exposed outdoor spots, such as either side of a front door, a garage entrance or a side gate. Its larger scale makes it a good match for bigger doorways or walls where a standard sized lantern would look lost.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started out in 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, as a small outdoor lantern maker, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. A century on, exterior lanterns like this large Freeport are still very much part of what the company does, just built at a bigger scale for bigger homes. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings such as this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification. The company simplified its name from Hinkley Lighting to just Hinkley between 2019 and 2020, around the same time it expanded into ceiling fans.

Is this wall lantern dimmable? Yes, it's dimmable as long as you fit a dimmable E27 LED bulb. With a non dimmable bulb, it will only work at full brightness.

Does it come with a bulb? No, this fitting takes one E27 LED bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one when you order.

Can I install this myself? We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed.
