The Fitzgerald Single Small Wall Lantern takes Hinkley's industrial inspired lantern design and scales it down to a single lamp fitting. At 34.4cm high and 19cm wide, it suits porches, gateposts and narrower doorways where the larger Fitzgerald lanterns would feel oversized.

Textured black and burnished bronze

The body is cast in aluminium and brass, finished in a textured black with burnished bronze detailing on the joints and trim. Clear seeded glass panels sit within the frame, giving the light a slightly aged, hand blown look. The finish works well against brick, render or painted timber, and pairs naturally with black door furniture and house numbers.

How it works

This lantern takes one E27 LED bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one to your order. It's wall mounted, with fixings included, and works on a dimmer circuit if you fit dimmable bulbs. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be wired to an earthed electrical supply.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, this lantern is built to cope with rain and damp outdoor conditions, making it suitable for a porch, entrance wall or gatepost. It's sized for narrower openings, and works well fitted singly beside a front or side door, or in a pair either side of a slightly wider entrance.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley founded a small outdoor lantern company in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. That focus on entrance and exterior lighting still runs through fittings like the Fitzgerald range, scaled here into a single lamp version for smaller doorways. After Phil died in 1937, Stanley Wiedemer, who had bought into the business in the mid 1930s, took it over and moved his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run it. His grandson Rick Wiedemer Jr joined the company in 1969, and by around 2000 the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had begun taking on leadership roles. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
