The Collier brings the range's mid-century detailing to a four light pendant, with a chain long enough for double height stairwells and vaulted kitchens as well as a standard dining table. This is a large fitting: a drop that adjusts from 77.2cm up to 377cm, using chain supplied at 304.8cm and 377cm, with a 54.3cm diameter and a 62.1cm tall body. Please check these measurements against your space before ordering.

Heritage Brass and mild steel

This variant is finished in Heritage Brass over a mild steel frame, with glass detailing on the knob and stem that runs through the Collier range. It sits well against warm wood, exposed brick and other brass hardware, and the same design is also available in a Gold finish if you're lighting more than one space.

How it works

The Collier takes four E14 LED bulbs, which aren't supplied, so you can choose the brightness and colour temperature you prefer. It works on a dimmer switch as long as you fit dimmable bulbs; with standard bulbs it won't dim. It's wired to Class I, so the fitting needs an earthed connection. The chain lets you set the drop anywhere between 77.2cm and 377cm to suit your ceiling. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

The extra reach in the chain makes this a good fit for kitchen islands, dining tables and open plan spaces with a high or vaulted ceiling, including stairwells and galleried landings. At its shortest drop it also works well over a standalone dining table in a room with more standard ceiling height.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. The Wiedemer family took over in the 1930s, first buying half the business from founder Phil R. Hinkley, then the rest after his death in 1937, and the family has run the company for four generations since. A piece like the Collier, with its cast detailing and glass accents, shows how far the range has grown from those first fourteen lanterns. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has converted Hinkley's designs, including this pendant, to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification so they can be wired safely into UK homes.

Questions People Ask

Is the Collier pendant dimmable? Yes, but only if you fit dimmable LED bulbs. With standard, non-dimmable bulbs it will not dim on a dimmer switch.

Are bulbs included? No. The Collier takes 4 x E14 LED bulbs, which you'll need to buy separately so you can pick the brightness and colour temperature you want.
