This is the large flush version of Hinkley's Collier design, a three light fitting that sits tight against the ceiling rather than hanging down. At 48.3cm across, it gives more spread of light than a smaller flush fitting would, without adding any drop below the ceiling. The Heritage Brass finish gives it a warm, aged character that suits both traditional and more contemporary kitchens.

Heritage Brass, mild steel and glass

The frame is mild steel finished in Heritage Brass, with a warm, slightly aged tone. A glass diffuser softens and spreads the light across the room rather than casting it in a single direction. It pairs well with warm woods, brass handles and other aged metal fittings, or works as a simple, characterful ceiling light against a plain painted ceiling.

How it works

This fitting takes three E27 bulbs, which are not included, so you'll need to add your own before it can be installed. Choose dimmable LED bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch if you want to vary the light level. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

This size of Collier flush fitting works well in kitchens and dining rooms, giving a good spread of light without a pendant hanging into the space. It also suits landings, hallways and any room with a low ceiling where a pendant or semi-flush design isn't practical.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. The Wiedemer family took over not long after, and by 1937 Stanley Wiedemer had bought the business outright and moved his family to Cleveland to run it. Four generations on, the Wiedemers still lead the company, which has grown from those early lanterns into a range that now includes flush fittings like this Collier design for kitchens and dining rooms, a long way from where the company started. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, converting fittings such as this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
