A traditional silhouette with real movement
Cello brings an updated take on traditional lighting to a semi-flush ceiling light, with bowed uprights that curve outward from the centre to give the fitting real shape and presence. This 2 light semi-flush version sits close to the ceiling while still catching the eye, thanks to its sculpted frame and softly glowing shade.
Antique bronze finish and materials
Cello is made from mild steel finished in antique bronze, with warm, aged highlights along the curved uprights that catch the light from different angles. A vintage style faux alabaster glass shade sits at the centre, softening the light output and adding to the fitting's period character. The antique bronze finish pairs naturally with dark wood, warm neutrals and other aged metal tones.
How it works
This semi-flush ceiling light takes 2 x E27 bulbs, which are not included, so you'll need to add two LED bulbs to your order. It's dimmable when used with dimmable LED bulbs. Cello is a Class I fitting, which means it must be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
Cello's low profile makes it a good fit for rooms where you want a decorative ceiling light without the drop of a pendant or chandelier, including living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms and hallways. It works well in a hallway or landing where headroom is tight, or as a softer alternative to a plain flush fitting in a bedroom or reception room.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. When Phil became ill in the mid 1930s, Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, bought into the business, then took it on fully after Phil's death in 1937 and moved his family to Cleveland to run it. That family stewardship carried through three more generations, from Stanley's grandson Rick, who joined in 1969, to Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer taking on leadership from around 2000. A piece like Cello, with its sculpted uprights and glass shade, reflects the decorative, detail led designs the company has built on for a century. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.

Questions People Ask
Is the Cello semi-flush dimmable? Yes. It works with dimmable LED bulbs, though the bulbs themselves are not included, so check that any bulbs and dimmer switch you use are compatible with each other.
Does it come with bulbs? No. Cello takes 2 x E27 bulbs, and we recommend LED bulbs for efficiency and a longer lifespan, but you'll need to add these separately.
Is this fitting suitable for a bathroom? No. Cello doesn't carry a water resistance rating, so it's designed for dry indoor rooms such as living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms and hallways rather than bathrooms.
What other versions of Cello are available? Alongside this 2 light semi-flush, Cello is also available as a wall light and as chandeliers with 3, 6, 9 or 15 lights, so you can match the style across a room or an open plan space.
How is Cello fitted to the ceiling? It mounts close to the ceiling as a semi-flush fitting rather than hanging on a chain or rod. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. Cello is a Class I fitting, which means it must be properly earthed.
