Vintage Iron finish

It's finished in Vintage Iron, a hand-applied steel finish that gives the overlapping ribbon detail its own depth and texture, paired here with seedy glass. Because the finish is applied by hand, colour and texture vary slightly from piece to piece, and screens don't always show the true tone in person. It sits well against stone, brick and weathered timber, and pairs naturally with other aged metal exterior fittings.

How it works

This chandelier takes 5 x E14 LED bulbs, which aren't included, so you'll need to order these separately, enough to fill all five sockets. It's dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's a Class I fixture, which means it needs to be properly earthed.

Rated IP44, this chandelier is built to cope with rain and damp air, so it suits covered porches, canopied entrances and sheltered outdoor dining areas. Given its scale, it works best somewhere with generous height and room around it, such as a large porch, veranda or covered terrace, rather than a tight doorway.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started out making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. A century on, exterior fittings like this Carson chandelier still sit close to those roots, just built on a much larger scale than those early lanterns. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, converting fittings such as this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification. It's a long way from a 14 piece catalogue to a five light outdoor chandelier of this size.
