The Hinkley Carabel 3 Light Pendant Chandelier is a piece of pierced metalwork more than a conventional light fitting, its flourishing scrollwork wrapped in a warm Brushed Champagne finish. It is also a genuinely large fixture, with a diameter of 53.3cm and a drop that adjusts from 73cm up to 374cm. Please check these measurements against your space before ordering.

Brushed Champagne and etched glass

Carabel is made from mild steel finished in Brushed Champagne, a soft warm gold tone that catches the light even before the lamps are switched on. Ivory linen shades and etched glass diffusers sit over each of the three lamp positions, softening the light rather than exposing it directly. The finish pairs naturally with warm woods, brass hardware and other champagne or brass accents in the room.

How it works

Carabel takes three E27 bulbs, which aren't supplied, so you'll need to add your own when you order. The fitting is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

Carabel's scale and detail make it a natural fit above a dining table, in a stairwell, or in an entrance hall with enough ceiling height to let the drop and the scrollwork read properly from below. It also works well in a living room or bedroom with a high ceiling, wherever you want a single piece to do the visual work in the room.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started small. In 1922, Phil R. Hinkley began making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. A piece with the scale and presence of Carabel would have been a long way off for that first catalogue. The company grew under the Wiedemer family, who took over after Phil's death in 1937 and carried it through four generations, eventually broadening into the full range of interior and exterior lighting that a design like Carabel belongs to. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has brought Hinkley's designs to the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
