A mid sized centrepiece from the Cambridge range
The Hinkley Cambridge 6 Light Chandelier brings six E14 lights together on a solid brass frame, sitting between the collection's smaller pendants and its largest chandeliers. This is a large fitting: a drop that adjusts from 81cm to 229.5cm, with a 73.5cm diameter and a weight of around 15kg. Please check these measurements against your space before ordering. The burnished brass finish is hand applied, so expect some natural variation in tone from piece to piece, and be aware that screens can show the colour differently to how it looks in person.
Burnished brass and clear optic glass
Solid brass cast components, brass turnings and beaded ball fonts run through this chandelier, all finished in a burnished brass tone with the clear optic glass used across the wider Cambridge range. The warm, slightly aged brass finish pairs naturally with dark woods, aged mirrors and other traditional metalwork, and suits classic interiors as well as more understated contemporary rooms.
How it works
This chandelier hangs from the ceiling on a chain or rod, with a drop that can be adjusted between 81cm and 229.5cm to suit your ceiling height. It takes 6 x E14 LED bulbs, which are not supplied, so you'll need to order these separately. The fitting is Class I, which means it needs an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
With six lights and a generous diameter, this chandelier suits dining rooms, living rooms with higher ceilings, bedrooms and hallways where a proper centrepiece is wanted rather than the largest chandelier in the range. Its adjustable drop makes it easier to fit into rooms with standard as well as taller ceilings.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. It's a useful contrast against a piece like the Cambridge chandelier, an indoor fitting built from cast solid brass with beaded ball fonts and clear optic glass, a world away from that first run of lanterns. Stanley Wiedemer bought into the business in the 1930s and took it over fully after Phil Hinkley's death in 1937, and his grandson Rick Wiedemer carried the company through a career spanning 50 years from 1969 onward. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this chandelier to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
