A softer take on the Cambridge wall light
The Hinkley Cambridge 2 Light Wall Light in Burnished Brass pairs solid brass arms with a single fabric shade over each light, taking the classic New England silhouette of the Cambridge range and softening it for rooms where a warm, diffused glow suits better than bare glass. Two lights on one backplate give a good spread of light from a single wall position, and the shaded arms make this the more traditional, furniture like option in the range.
Solid brass and fabric shades
Each arm carries solid brass cast components and a beaded ball font, finished in Burnished Brass, a warm brass tone with an aged look that sits well alongside natural wood, aged leather and other warm metals. A fabric shade covers each arm, softening the light rather than showing it as bare glass does on the open Cambridge wall light, so this version suits schemes where a gentler, more ambient glow is wanted.
How it works
This wall light takes 2 x E14 LED bulbs, which aren't supplied, so you'll need to add these when you order. It's dimmable as long as you fit dimmable bulbs. The fitting is wired directly into the wall and mounted on a backplate, with no plug or switch on show. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It comes with a 2 year warranty.
Where it works best
The shaded arms and warm brass finish suit living rooms, dining rooms and hallways where you want flattering, ambient light rather than a stronger, more directional beam. Because the fabric shade diffuses the light, it works well either side of a mirror, fireplace or console table, or spaced along a hallway wall where the two light output gives even coverage.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley started in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. After Phil died in 1937, Stanley Wiedemer, who had already bought half the business, took it over and moved his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run it, and the Wiedemer family has stayed at the helm ever since, through Stanley's grandson Rick joining in 1969 and a fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, taking on leadership roles around 2000. The Cambridge range, with its brass arms and choice of open glass or a single fabric shade like this one, shows how far the company's designs have grown from those early lanterns into fittings for living rooms, dining rooms and hallways as much as porches. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this Cambridge wall light to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.

Questions People Ask
Are bulbs included with this wall light? No. This fitting takes 2 x E14 LED bulbs, which aren't supplied, so you'll need to order these separately.
Is the Hinkley Cambridge wall light dimmable? Yes, it's dimmable as long as you fit dimmable E14 LED bulbs. Bulbs that aren't dimmable won't dim even on a dimmer switch circuit.
What's the difference between this version and the open glass Cambridge wall light? This single shade version adds a fabric shade over each arm, softening and diffusing the light for a gentler look, while the open glass version in the same range shows the bulb and brass arm without a shade for a more decorative, exposed look.
Can I install this wall light myself? This fitting is wired directly into the wall rather than simply plugged in, so we always recommend a qualified electrician installs it.
How do I look after the Burnished Brass finish and fabric shade? Wipe the brass arms with a soft, dry cloth to keep dust off, and avoid household cleaners or abrasive polishes which can dull the finish. Spot clean the fabric shade gently and keep it away from direct moisture.
