The Hinkley Bromley 2 Light Medium Wall Lantern brings an updated take on a classic outdoor lantern to a front door, porch or garden wall. A Shepherd's Hook scrolled arm and a detailed top finial give it the settled, old world look of a fitting that has always been there, even on a new build. This medium, two light size steps up from the single light Bromley, giving a fuller spread of light either side of a door or gate.

Oil Rubbed Bronze finish

This lantern is made from cast aluminium and finished in Oil Rubbed Bronze, a deep brown black tone with warm bronze highlights where the light catches the scrolled arm and finial detail. It sits comfortably against brick, render, stone or painted timber, and pairs well with black or bronze door furniture and house numbers.

How it works

Two E14 lamps sit within the lantern, giving a fuller spread of light than the single light version. Bulbs are not supplied, so you will need to add your own. Choose dimmable LED lamps if you want to use it with a dimmer switch, since dimming depends on the bulb rather than the fitting itself. This is a Class I fitting, which means it requires an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Bromley has an IP44 rating, so it is built to cope with rain and splashing and is suitable for exposed outdoor locations. It works well either side of a front door, on a porch, at a garage, or along a garden wall, and this medium size suits a moderately proportioned door surround or entrance.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley set up as a small outdoor lantern maker with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. Bromley's scrolled arm and cast top finial sit squarely in that original outdoor lantern tradition, more than a century on. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring and securing full CE certification. The company simplified its name from Hinkley Lighting to simply Hinkley between 2019 and 2020, as it expanded into ceiling fans, but outdoor lanterns like Bromley remain close to where the business started.
