The Bolla 2 Light Semi-Flush Fitting hangs a touch further from the ceiling than the fully flush version in the same range, so the sweeping arms and rounded sphere details get a little more room to show. Two bell shaped glass shades sit on a Brushed Nickel frame, making this a neat semi-flush ceiling light for rooms with standard ceiling heights.

Brushed nickel, glass and steel

The fitting is made from mild steel with a soft Brushed Nickel finish, paired with bell shaped glass shades that soften the light without hiding it. It sits well with other brushed metal fittings and switch plates, and works equally happily against white walls or warmer decorating schemes.

How it works

It takes two E27 bulbs, which are not supplied, so add these to your order before it arrives. The bulbs can be dimmed if you fit dimmable bulbs and pair the fitting with a compatible dimmer switch. This is a Class I fitting, which means it must be properly earthed as part of installation. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

This semi-flush design works well in living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens and hallways, anywhere you want more shape and presence than a fully flush fitting gives but don't have the ceiling height for a pendant. It also suits landings and bedrooms where a close fitting light is preferred over anything that hangs low.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. The company has stayed family run ever since, passing from Phil to Stanley Wiedemer in the 1930s, then to Stanley's grandson Rick in 1969, and on to the fourth generation of Wiedemers around the turn of the millennium. A fitting like the Bolla, understated and built for everyday rooms rather than grand entrances, reflects that steady, practical approach more than any single flagship design. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, including this one, converting it to 220 to 240V wiring and full CE certification.
