Museum Black finish and materials

The frame is aluminium finished in Museum Black, a deep matte black built to cope with life outdoors. It's paired with clear seeded glass panels, which catch the light and give it a slightly textured, old fashioned look. The dark frame and textured glass work well against brick, render, or painted exteriors.

How it works

Two lamps sit behind the seeded glass, each taking an E14 LED bulb. Bulbs are not included, so you'll need to add two E14 bulbs to your order. The lantern is dimmable if you fit dimmable LED bulbs. This is a Class I fitting, which means it needs an earth connection. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started out in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. When Phil Hinkley fell ill in the mid 1930s he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, and after Phil died in 1937 it was Stanley's family who carried the outdoor lantern tradition forward from Cleveland for decades to come. The Beacon Hill range still keeps faith with that original brief, a lantern designed for the door rather than the display cabinet. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted these designs for UK and European homes, converting fittings like this medium Beacon Hill lantern to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
