A brass pendant with a bit more presence
The Amelia Single Medium Pendant carries the same vintage details as the rest of the Amelia collection, but in a larger single dome that works well as a standalone feature light rather than one of a group. It's finished in Heritage Brass, with cast hinges and clasps that give it a warm, well made feel.
The Heritage Brass finish
Made from steel and glass, this pendant has a warm, softly aged brass tone that suits traditional and transitional interiors alike. The etched opal glass dome diffuses light through a prismatic bottom lens, so the room gets a soft, even glow rather than one harsh pool of light below the fitting.
How it works
This is a single light pendant that takes 1 x E27 bulb, not supplied, so you can pick the exact brightness and colour temperature you want. It's dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. The cable adjusts so the drop can be set anywhere from 42cm to 110cm to suit your ceiling height. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
At 32.4cm across and 35cm tall, it's a good size for a kitchen island or above a dining table, and works equally well as a single feature over a console table or reading corner, anywhere you want one confident drop of light rather than an even spread across a room.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started out as a small outdoor lantern maker with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. When illness forced him to sell half the business in the mid 1930s, Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, bought in, and after Phil died in 1937 Stanley bought the rest and moved his family to Cleveland to run the company. Stanley's grandson Rick joined in 1969 for a career that spanned 50 years, and by around 2000 the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had begun taking on leadership roles themselves. A century on, a piece like this Heritage Brass pendant carries that same family thread, its aged brass tone a nod to the company's long history. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring and full CE certification.
