The Hinkley Amelia Single Light Medium Pendant in Chrome carries the same vintage style clasps and cast glass fitter as the rest of the Amelia range, but it's scaled up from the mini version so it can work as a single, standalone drop rather than part of a cluster. It's built to hang confidently on its own over a table or island.

The Chrome finish

Chrome gives this pendant a bright, reflective surface that sits comfortably alongside contemporary metalwork and fittings. The cast metal frame and cast glass dome pair that clean modern finish with an etched opal glass dome and prismatic bottom lens, a nod to the collection's more traditional roots. It's also available in a Nickel finish if you'd prefer a softer, warmer tone.

How it works

This is a single light pendant hung on an adjustable cable rather than fixed flush to the ceiling, so the drop can be set anywhere between 42cm and 110cm to suit your space. It takes 1 x E27 bulb, which isn't supplied, so you'll need to add one to your order. It's dimmable when dimmable bulbs are used with a compatible dimmer switch. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's wired to Class I electrical standards, which means it needs to be earthed.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley's story starts in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley began making lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. The vintage style clasps and cast glass on this Amelia pendant echo those early lantern beginnings, even in a fitting made for a kitchen or dining table rather than a porch. Phil sold half the business to travelling salesman Stanley Wiedemer in the mid 1930s, and Stanley bought the rest and moved his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run it after Phil died in 1937. The Wiedemer family has kept the business going ever since, with Rick Wiedemer Jr joining in 1969 and a fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric, taking on leadership roles from around 2000. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
