It's a compact two light fitting that sits close to the ceiling rather than hanging down, built around a cast glass diffuser that softens and spreads the light across the room.

The Polished Chrome finish

This fitting pairs a steel frame with a cast glass diffuser, finished in Polished Chrome for a bright, mirror like surface. It reads more contemporary than the darker brass and bronze options in the Amelia range, adding a crisp, reflective note to modern kitchens and dining spaces. The same design is also available in Nickel, if you would prefer a softer sheen.

How it works

The Amelia takes two E27 bulbs, which are not supplied, so you will need to add your own when you order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. This is a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

Its flush profile keeps the fitting close to the ceiling, which suits kitchens and dining rooms with lower ceiling heights or anywhere a pendant would hang too low. The brighter Polished Chrome finish works well in contemporary and transitional schemes. This is an indoor fitting, designed for dry, covered spaces such as kitchens and hallways rather than bathrooms or other wet locations.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started a small outdoor lantern company in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. When illness forced Phil to step back in the mid 1930s, he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, and after Phil died in 1937, Stanley bought the remaining half and moved his family to Cleveland to run the company himself. His grandson, Richard "Rick" Wiedemer Jr, joined the business in 1969 and went on to lead it for fifty years, the kind of long, steady continuity that still shows in a design like the Amelia's vintage inspired flush silhouette. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
