Harte Georgian Style 0.39m Pier Light - Cast Iron & Steel

Standing at 0.39 metres, this is the smallest pier light in Harte's Courtyard range, made to sit on top of a gate pier or entrance pier without overwhelming it. Its cylindrical form and ornate cap take their cues from Georgian era ironwork, reworked here in cast iron and steel for a fixture built to mark an entrance rather than light a whole driveway.

Cast iron and steel build

The light is cast in iron and steel, materials chosen for how they hold up outdoors over years of Irish weather rather than for how they look on day one. Harte says the cast iron and steel elements of its products carry a lifetime guarantee against cracking, bending or breaking under normal conditions, with exclusions for surface finish, electrical components, copper and aluminium products, and damage caused during installation. The standard finish is gloss black, with other colours available on request.

How it works

Light passes through a cylindrical polycarbonate glazing panel that spreads it evenly around the fixture, while the ornate cast iron cap sits over the lamp housing to enclose the light source, cut down on glare, and send the light downward rather than up into the sky. It takes an E27 bulb and needs a mains wiring connection and a fixed base, so we recommend having a qualified electrician handle the wiring.

Where it works best

Because it's the shortest fixture in the range, this pier light suits piers either side of a gate or entrance where a low, understated marker light is wanted rather than a tall feature. It reads well on both period stone piers and simpler rendered ones.

Harte, Irish craft since 1983

This pier light is made by Harte Outdoor Lighting, a family run manufacturer based in New Ross, County Wexford, producing cast iron outdoor lighting since 1983. Harte says its lighting is installed at notable Irish locations including Áras an Uachtaráin, Adare Manor and the K Club, as well as private homes and estates across Ireland and the UK.
