Harte Classic Railway Style 2.43m Lamp Post - Cast Iron, Steel & Copper Head

At 2.43 metres, this Station Master lamp post sits in the middle of Harte's height range, cast iron and galvanised steel finished in gloss black, topped with a copper head that sets it apart from the plain iron versions. It's a size that reads as a proper lamp post rather than a path light, without being tall enough to dominate a smaller garden.

Cast iron, steel and a copper head

The shaft and base are cast iron and galvanised steel, built for weather resistance and painted gloss black as standard, with other colours available on request. The copper head sits at the top as its own material, left in its natural tone rather than painted, giving the fixture a warm point of contrast against the black below. Harte says the cast iron and steel elements carry a lifetime guarantee against cracking, bending or breaking under normal conditions, though this doesn't extend to the copper head, in keeping with Harte's stated exclusions for copper and aluminium components.

How it works

A cylindrical shade with polycarbonate glazing spreads the light broadly, and the copper head takes on the role of the ornate cap, enclosing the lamp and directing the light down rather than letting it scatter upward. Connection to mains wiring and a fixed base are required, and we'd suggest a qualified electrician handle the wiring.

Where it works best

At just under 2.5 metres, this post works well flanking a driveway entrance or gate in a pair, or standing alone at the head of a path, tall enough to be seen from the house but not so tall that it overwhelms a modest frontage. The copper head sits close enough to eye level from a car or path that its detail doesn't go unnoticed.
