Harte Classic Railway Style 1.21m Pedestal Light - Cast Iron, Steel & Copper Head

This 1.21 metre pedestal light is built to the same cast iron and galvanised steel body as the standard version in Harte's Station Master range, but tops it with a copper head, a genuine material change rather than a different paint colour. The range is inspired by lighting once used on Irish railway platforms in the late 1800s, and the copper head gives this piece a distinct look at the point where light actually comes from.

Cast iron, steel and copper detailing

The pedestal itself is cast iron and galvanised steel, finished in gloss black as standard with other colours available on request, while the head is finished in copper rather than painted iron, so it will weather and tone differently over time compared to the black body beneath it. Harte says the cast iron and steel elements of its lighting carry a lifetime guarantee against cracking, bending or breaking under normal conditions, with exclusions for surface finish, electrical components, copper and aluminium products, and damage caused during installation.

How it works

Light spreads out through a cylindrical, polycarbonate glazed shade, with the copper cap sitting over the lamp housing in place of the usual cast iron cap, still directing the glow downward and keeping glare to a minimum. It needs a mains wiring connection and a fixed base, and we'd recommend a qualified electrician for the wiring.

Where it works best

The copper head is most effective where it will be seen at reasonably close range, such as flanking a front entrance, standing at the corner of a terrace, or set along a path close to the house, rather than out at the far end of a long driveway where the detail would be lost at a distance.

This pedestal light comes from Harte Outdoor Lighting, a family run manufacturer based in New Ross, County Wexford, making cast iron lighting since 1983. Harte says its lighting is installed at notable Irish locations including Áras an Uachtaráin, Adare Manor and the K Club, as well as hospitality venues and public and commercial projects across Ireland and the UK.
