Harte Classic Railway Style 0.81m Pier Light - Cast Iron & Steel

At 0.81 metres, this is the most compact pier light in Harte's Station Master range, a collection inspired by the lighting once used on Irish railway platforms in the late 1800s. Cast in iron and finished with galvanised steel, it's built to fit onto a pier or gate pillar, marking an entrance with a light that reads as solid and permanent rather than decorative.

Cast iron and galvanised steel build

The body is cast iron with galvanised steel detailing, chosen for its resistance to the weather over years of outdoor use. Harte says the cast iron and steel elements of its lighting carry a lifetime guarantee against cracking, bending or breaking under normal conditions, with exclusions for surface finish, electrical components, and damage caused during installation. It's finished in gloss black as standard, with other colours available on request.

How it works

Light is spread through a cylindrical, polycarbonate glazed shade, while the ornate cast iron cap sits above the lamp housing, containing the light source and directing the glow downward rather than letting it scatter upward or sideways. As with all Harte lighting, it needs a mains wiring connection, and we'd recommend a qualified electrician handle the fitting.

Where it works best

Its low profile makes it a natural fit for a single gate pier, a boundary pillar, or the entrance to a courtyard, where a taller light would feel out of proportion. Fitted in pairs either side of a gateway, it gives a consistent, low level marker without drawing attention away from the entrance itself.

Harte, Irish craft since 1983

This pier light is made by Harte Outdoor Lighting, a family run manufacturer based in New Ross, County Wexford, founded by Willie Harte in 1983 and now carried forward by the next generation of the family. Harte says its lighting has been fitted at notable Irish locations including Áras an Uachtaráin, Adare Manor and the K Club, as well as private homes and estates across Ireland and the UK.
