Harte Classic Railway Style 0.59m Pier Light For Flat Piers - Cast Iron & Steel

This pier light stands 0.59 metres tall and is built to fix directly onto a flat faced pier, rather than wrap around a rounded or tapered one. It belongs to Harte's Station Master range, a collection of outdoor lights inspired by the lamps once used on Irish railway platforms in the late 1800s, and brings that same understated, functional character to a gateway or boundary wall.

Cast iron and galvanised steel build

The light is made from cast iron and galvanised steel, materials chosen for how well they hold up outdoors over years of weather rather than for how they look on day one. Harte says the cast iron and steel elements of its lighting carry a lifetime guarantee against cracking, bending or breaking under normal conditions, with exclusions for surface finish, electrical components, and damage caused during installation. The standard finish is gloss black, with other colours available on request.

How it works

Light spreads out through a cylindrical polycarbonate shade, while the ornate cast iron cap sits above it, enclosing the lamp and directing the light back down towards the pier and the ground around it rather than letting it spill upward. It needs a mains wiring connection and a flat fixing surface on top of the pier, and we recommend a qualified electrician handle the wiring.

Where it works best

Because it's built for a flat pier top, this light suits square or rectangular gate piers, entrance pillars and capped boundary walls rather than rounded columns. Fitted in a pair either side of a driveway or front gate, it marks the entrance clearly at dusk without needing a tall post to do it.

This pier light is made by Harte Outdoor Lighting, a family run manufacturer based in New Ross, County Wexford, producing cast iron outdoor lighting since 1983. Harte says its lighting is installed at notable Irish locations including Áras an Uachtaráin, Adare Manor and the K Club, as well as private homes and estates across Ireland and the UK.
