This 0.37 metre wall light shares its cast iron and steel body with the rest of Harte's Station Master range, styled after the lamps once used on Irish railway platforms in the late 1800s, but is finished with a copper head rather than a cast iron one. It's the same heritage silhouette with one genuine material change at the top of the fixture, not just a different coat of paint.
Cast iron, steel and a copper head
The main body and wall bracket are cast iron and steel, while the head of the fixture is copper, a distinct material rather than a copper coloured finish over another metal. Copper weathers differently to cast iron, and over time it will develop its own natural patina rather than holding the gloss black of the rest of the fixture. Harte says the cast iron and steel elements of its lighting carry a lifetime guarantee against cracking, bending or breaking under normal conditions, though this guarantee excludes copper and aluminium components, along with surface finish and electrical parts. The gloss black finish on the cast iron and steel sections is standard, with other colours available on request.
How it works
As with the rest of the range, a cylindrical polycarbonate shade spreads the light, while the cap, here in copper, encloses the lamp housing and directs the light downward, reducing glare and upward spill. It's wall mounted on a projecting bracket and needs a solid wall fixing point along with a mains wiring connection.
Where it works best
The copper head gives this wall light a warmer visual detail at close range, so it works well anywhere it will be seen up close, either side of a front door, along a porch wall, or at entrances where guests pass within a few feet of the fixture. It pairs naturally with other copper or aged metal details nearby.
Harte, Irish craft since 1983
Harte Outdoor Lighting has made cast iron and copper detailed lighting from its workshop in New Ross, County Wexford, since 1983, founded by Willie Harte and now carried forward by Liz Harte and the next generation, including Jack and Sam Harte. Harte says its lighting is installed at notable Irish locations including Áras an Uachtaráin, Adare Manor and the K Club, alongside private homes and hospitality venues across Ireland and the UK.
