The 46cm shade still glows amber at its core and throws the same intricate lattice of shadow the Scraplights range is known for, just wrapped in a paler shell suited to rooms already built around light, neutral surfaces.

Knife Cut White Cardboard

White cardboard scorches under a laser, so this shade is knife cut by hand rather than laser cut like most other Scraplights finishes. It is then hand assembled and bonded with the same non-toxic adhesive and fire retardant used across the range. The result is a crisper, brighter surface than Graypants' natural Blonde or Gray finishes, while keeping the same ridged, layered texture. It pairs well with pale walls, light oak and other soft, contemporary materials, and suits minimalist, Scandinavian or boutique hotel style rooms.

How It Works

The Tilt stands on its own base rather than being wired into the ceiling, so it plugs straight into a standard socket and switches on and off at an inline switch set into its 2.5m black fabric cord. It takes a single E27 bulb, 15W maximum LED, which is not supplied, so you can choose the exact warmth and brightness yourself. Fit a dimmable LED bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch if you would like to bring the light down for evenings. As a plug in lamp, no electrician is needed, simply position it and plug it in.

The Scraplights Story

The Scraplights collection began almost by accident, when Graypants co-founder Seth Grizzle used leftover cardboard from a sustainable design competition and discovered that layered rings of it could filter light beautifully and cast striking shadows. Graypants itself was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati, and the brand now makes its pieces across studios in the Pacific Northwest and Amsterdam. The Tilt floor lamp carries that same hand assembled cardboard construction into a freestanding piece.
