A Warm Glow That Stands on Its Own

The Tilt floor lamp brings the Scraplights collection down from the ceiling and onto a stand of its own. Its 46cm shade is built from reclaimed corrugated cardboard, laser cut into layered rings and hand assembled by Graypants' craftspeople, then bonded with a non-toxic adhesive and treated with a non-toxic fire retardant. Left in its natural kraft tone, the cardboard filters light into a warm amber glow and throws a lattice of soft shadow across the walls and ceiling around it. Because each shade is pieced together by hand, no two are quite identical.

Natural: The Cardboard's Own Honeyed Tone

Natural is the Tilt left exactly as its material comes, with no darker finish or dye applied to the cardboard. Held up to the light, the laser cut rings show every cut edge and ridge, giving the shade a texture closer to driftwood or raw timber than anything obviously made from packaging. The 35cm black powder coated steel stand keeps the shade at a comfortable height beside a chair or in a corner without drawing attention to itself. Natural pairs easily with light oak, linen, rattan and pale plaster, and sits well in a Scandinavian, Japandi or organic modern room.

How It Works

The shade measures 35cm in height and 46cm in diameter, set on a black powder coated steel stand with a 2.5m black fabric cord and an inline switch, so it plugs straight into a standard socket with no wiring needed. It takes a single E27 bulb, 15W LED maximum, not included. Fit a dimmable LED bulb with a compatible dimmer if you want to bring the glow down for evenings.

Its warm, filtered light and shifting shadow pattern suit a reading corner, beside a sofa or armchair, or a bare spot in a bedroom or study that needs texture rather than a bright, even wash. Born From a Sustainability Competition

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection began almost by accident, when the pair entered a sustainable design competition and built their first cardboard shades from leftover packaging material rather than buying anything new. That resourceful, hand assembled approach has stayed at the core of the collection ever since, made across Graypants' studios in the Pacific Northwest and Amsterdam.
