The Scraplights Sun 32 takes Graypants' signature sunburst silhouette and reworks it in clean white. Layers of hand cut cardboard rays fan out from a central glass diffuser, so the fixture reads as sculpture as much as light source. This is also a genuinely large pendant, 82cm across and 75cm in height, weighing 6.2kg, so it makes the biggest impact in a room with the ceiling height and floor space to give it room to breathe.

Clean Lines in Hand Cut White Cardboard

Where the natural Scraplights lean rustic and raw, this White finish is knife cut by hand rather than laser cut, since pale cardboard scorches under a laser. The result is a crisper, more architectural edge to each ray. The visible cardboard sits in white, while the internal frame and canopy are finished in gray powder coated steel, kept out of sight behind the shade. At the centre, a glass diffuser softens the light before it reaches the rays, giving the whole piece a more even, muted glow than its raw cardboard siblings.

How It Works

• The fixture hardwires to the ceiling using a fabric cord and a round canopy, with 2 metres of white cord supplied as standard (5 metres available on request).
• It takes 4 x E27 LED bulbs, each rated up to 15W. Bulbs are not supplied.
• Fitted with a compatible dimmable LED bulb, the light can be dimmed. The fixture itself has no integrated LED or built in dimmer module.
• Because this is a hardwired pendant, it should always be installed by a qualified electrician, regardless of the fitting's electrical class.
• The electrician can set the drop to suit the room during installation, whether that is a low landing or a tall, open living space.

Graypants, From Seattle to a Design Icon

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights range itself began almost by accident, when the pair entered a sustainable design competition and started experimenting with leftover cardboard as a lighting material. That original idea has since grown into the sunburst family this White Sun 32 belongs to.
