Crisp White, Cut and Layered by Hand

This version is knife cut from white corrugated cardboard rather than the brand's raw natural stock, so the layered rings read as clean, graphic lines rather than warm, honeyed texture. Each shade is hand assembled and bonded with a non-toxic adhesive, then treated with a non-toxic fire retardant for safe indoor use. The white finish suits contemporary, monochrome and gallery like interiors, and pairs comfortably with black ironmongery, pale timber, concrete or glass, wherever you want a striking sculptural shape without adding colour to the room.

How It Works

At its centre sits a glass diffuser, which spreads light from the bulbs evenly through the cardboard shade rather than letting it pool at one point. The fixture takes three E27 lamp holders, each rated up to 15W LED (bulbs not supplied), and is dimmable if you fit dimmable LED bulbs and pair them with a compatible dimmer switch. It is a hardwired pendant, supplied on a 2m white fabric cord with a small white powder coated canopy, 2.5cm high and 10cm in diameter; a 5m cord is available if you ask us to enquire on your behalf. Because it is hardwired and the drop height is set on site, installation should always be carried out by a qualified electrician.

The Scraplights Story

The Scraplights collection the Ohio 32 belongs to began almost by accident, when Graypants co founder Seth Grizzle started experimenting with leftover corrugated cardboard while entering a sustainable design competition, and found that layered, cut rings of it could hold light beautifully. Graypants itself was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati, and the brand now makes its pieces across studios in the Pacific Northwest and Amsterdam.
