A Slender White Lattice for Small Spaces

The Nest 24 in White is the compact size of Graypants' tall, woven Nest pendant, a narrower and more upright shape than the flat ring shades used elsewhere in the Scraplights range. At just 24cm across, its crisp white lattice throws a fine pattern of light and shadow without taking up much visual space, making it a good fit for a single bedside pendant or a repeated run along a hallway or stairwell.

A Clean, Knife Cut White Finish

Where some Scraplights shades are laser cut, the Nest 24 in White is cut by knife, which keeps its pale, open weave looking clean edged rather than scorched. Each shade is pieced together by hand from reclaimed corrugated cardboard, bonded with a non toxic adhesive and treated to be fire retardant. The white finish reads cooler and softer than the natural Blonde shades in the same collection, and sits comfortably alongside pale oak, white painted woodwork, linen and other light, contemporary materials.

How It Works

The Nest 24 is a hardwired ceiling pendant with a white powder coated canopy, 2.5cm high and 10cm in diameter, and a white fabric cord that runs 2m as standard (a 5m cord is available on request, please enquire). It takes one E27 bulb, 15W maximum LED, which is not supplied. Fit a dimmable LED bulb with a compatible dimmer switch if you want to adjust the brightness; a standard, non dimmable bulb will run at full brightness only. Because it is a hardwired fitting, it should always be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

At 24cm across, the Nest 24 works well on its own beside a bed, on a small landing or in a narrow hallway, and just as well repeated in twos or threes along a run of stairs or a corridor. The Story Behind Scraplights

The Nest 24 belongs to Graypants' Scraplights collection, which began almost by accident. While competing in a sustainable design competition, Graypants co-founder Seth Grizzle started experimenting with leftover corrugated cardboard and found that layered, cut pieces of it could hold light beautifully and cast striking shadows. That discovery became the starting point for Scraplights. Graypants itself was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati, and the brand now makes its pieces across studios in the Pacific Northwest and Amsterdam.
