A Hand Cut Study in Cardboard and Light
The Ebey table lamp is part of Graypants' Scraplights collection, built from layered corrugated cardboard that glows amber once it's lit. This White version is knife cut by hand rather than laser cut, a slower process that gives the 24cm shade a crisp, papery brightness you can see even before it's switched on. Lit, it still carries the warm glow the collection is known for, but the pale shade reads cleaner and more graphic than Scraplights' darker finishes.
The White Finish
Where most Scraplights shades are laser cut in tight, repeating layers, the White finish is knife cut by hand, so no two shades come out quite the same. The cardboard is left in its pale, undyed state rather than stained, giving it a softer, almost paper like texture and a brighter, whiter cast to the light than the darker Scraplights finishes. It suits a Scandinavian or Japandi room, or anywhere you want the texture of the material to read as a feature rather than fade into the background.
How It Works
This is a plug in table lamp, not a hardwired fitting. It comes with a 2.5m black fabric cord and an inline switch, so it's ready to sit on a shelf, console or nightstand and switch straight on. It takes one E27 bulb, 15W maximum, which is not supplied. The lamp itself has no built in dimmer, just the inline on/off switch, so whether the light dims comes down to the bulb you fit; choose a dimmable LED bulb with a compatible dimmer if you want that control.
Where It Works Best
At 24cm across and 34cm tall, the Ebey is sized for a nightstand, console table, sideboard or bookshelf rather than as a room's main light source. It works well in a bedroom for soft evening light, in a living room or dining room as an accent alongside your main lighting, or in a hallway where a warm, low level glow suits better than full brightness.
Graypants: Cardboard, Reworked
Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection that the Ebey belongs to began almost by accident, when the pair entered a sustainable design competition and started experimenting with leftover cardboard rather than buying new material. That original idea, cardboard cut and layered into a shade that glows, is still what defines the collection today.

Questions People Ask
- Is the Ebey table lamp hardwired or plug in? It's a plug in lamp with a 2.5m black fabric cord and an inline switch, so it doesn't need an electrician to install. Just plug it in and switch it on.
- What bulb does it take? One E27 bulb, 15W maximum. A bulb isn't included, so choose one to suit the brightness and warmth you want.
- Is it dimmable? The lamp itself has an on/off inline switch rather than a built in dimmer. Whether you get dimmable light depends on the bulb you fit; use a dimmable LED bulb with a compatible dimmer for that control.
- Can I return it if I change my mind? No. Due to the handmade nature of this product, it is strictly non-returnable. If you're unsure about the finish or fit, contact Moonlight before ordering to ask about seeing the fittings or receiving a swatch.
- Why is the White finish knife cut rather than laser cut? Most Scraplights shades are laser cut, but the White finish is cut by hand with a knife, a slower process that gives it a slightly different texture and a crisper, brighter look than the darker finishes.
