A Bell Shaped Glow Cast From Reclaimed Cardboard

The Bell 16 is one of Graypants' signature silhouettes, and this Natural finish keeps the material honest. Laser cut rings of reclaimed corrugated cardboard are stacked and hand assembled into a soft bell curve, then lit from within to throw a warm amber glow and a distinctive shadow pattern across the room. At 38cm in diameter it is sized to work as a single strong pendant rather than part of a cluster, and because every shade is put together by hand, no two are ever quite identical.

Unbleached Cardboard, Left in Its Own Tone

Natural is the Bell 16 in its rawest form. The cardboard is left unbleached and undyed, so it keeps its own warm tan and honey brown colouring rather than being painted or stained. The laser cut rings leave the corrugated edges visible, giving the shade a layered, textured surface up close and a softer, glowing curve from across the room. It sits comfortably alongside timber, linen, and other natural materials, and suits interiors that lean warm, textural, or a little industrial.

Graypants: From a Cardboard Experiment to a Studio Collection

Graypants was founded in Seattle in 2007 by Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker, who met while studying architecture at the University of Cincinnati. The Scraplights collection, which the Bell 16 belongs to, began almost by accident, when the pair used leftover cardboard to build a lighting entry for a sustainable design competition. That original experiment grew into the studio's best known collection, now made by hand across Graypants' Pacific Northwest and Amsterdam studios.

• This item is strictly non-returnable due to the handmade nature of the product. If you would like to see the fittings in person or request a swatch before ordering, please get in touch with us first.
• The bulb is not included. You will need 1 x E27 LED bulb, 15W maximum, and a dimmable version if you want the pendant to dim.
• Cord length is 2m as standard. A 5m cord is available on request, so let us know at the time of ordering if you need the longer length.
• Because each shade is hand assembled from natural cardboard, small variations in tone and texture between pieces are normal, not a fault.
• Please arrange for a qualified electrician to install this pendant, as it is a hardwired fitting.

• Is the bulb included with this pendant? No. The Bell 16 takes a single E27 bulb, 15W maximum LED, which is not supplied.
• Can this pendant be dimmed? Yes, as long as it is fitted with a dimmable LED bulb. A standard, non dimmable bulb will not dim even on a dimmer switch.
• Can I return this pendant if I change my mind? No. Due to the handmade nature of the cardboard shade, this product is strictly non-returnable. You are welcome to ask us for a swatch or to see the fittings before you order.
• Do I need an electrician to install it? Yes. This is a hardwired ceiling pendant, so it should always be installed by a qualified electrician.
• How long is the cord and can it be extended? The standard cord is 2m of black fabric flex. A 5m cord is available if you need extra drop, just ask when you order.
