A Single Cylinder of Weathered Steel

The Roest 30v Pendant reduces lighting down to one simple form: a vertical cylinder of steel, left to develop a natural, rusted surface before being sealed in place. In this Zinc finish, that surface settles into a soft, weathered silver grey rather than the deeper rust tones seen elsewhere in the Roest range. At 30cm tall, it is compact enough to work as a single drop pendant or gathered in twos and threes, without dominating a room.

A Soft, Weathered Grey

Zinc is the coolest of the Roest finishes, a muted, silvery grey that reads more industrial than rustic. The tone comes from the same natural oxidisation process used across the collection, arrested and sealed once it reaches this particular shade rather than left to develop further. Because the surface forms naturally, no two Zinc pendants are ever quite identical, small variations in patina and texture are part of the finish rather than a flaw. It suits pairing with cool greys, concrete, black ironmongery and other pared back, industrial materials.

How It Works

The Roest 30v hangs on an adjustable black fabric cord, supplied at 2m as standard (a 5m cord is available, please ask us to enquire on your behalf), from a small ceiling canopy measuring 2.5cm high and 10cm in diameter, finished in black powder coating. It takes a single GU10 LED lamp, up to 10W, which is not supplied. Fit a dimmable GU10 LED bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch if you want to bring the light down for evenings, a standard, non dimmable bulb will simply run at full brightness. As a hardwired fitting, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Its compact scale makes the Roest 30v easy to place as a single pendant over a side table, reading chair or narrow hallway, or clustered in twos and threes above a kitchen island or dining table for a more layered look. The Zinc finish suits Scandinavian, industrial and boutique hotel style interiors, anywhere a quiet, sculptural material accent works better than a bright, decorative shade.

Developed With VanJoost in the Netherlands

The Roest collection was developed by Graypants with Dutch design studio VanJoost, led by designer Joost van Veldhuizen, and is hand made in the Netherlands. Each pendant is left to oxidise naturally before the surface is sealed once it reaches the right tone, which is why no two pieces are ever quite identical.
