A Familiar Shape, Softened by Ribbed Glass

This is the same tapered Upton shade as our clear glass pendant, but with fine vertical ribbing hand blown into the glass. The ribbing catches and softens the light rather than letting it shine straight through, which gives a gentler glow than plain glass.

The Ribbed Glass

The ribbed texture adds a bit more presence than clear glass without going as far as frosted or smoked. It is a popular choice on its own, and just as popular grouped together in Fritz Fryer's cluster chandeliers, where several Upton shades hang at different heights.

Made By Fritz Fryer

Fritz Fryer has worked out of Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, since 1982, when it started out restoring antique lighting from the UK and Europe. Decades on, the glass is still hand blown and the metalwork still hand coloured, which is why you will sometimes spot a tiny air bubble in the glass or a slight variation in tone between fittings.

No. It is made to order in your chosen finish, so it cannot be returned once the order has been placed.

Can I use this pendant in a cluster with other Upton shades?
Yes. The Upton ribbed shade is a popular choice in Fritz Fryer's multi shade cluster chandeliers as well as on its own.

Why does the ribbing look slightly different from one pendant to the next?
Because the glass is hand blown, the depth and spacing of the ribbing can vary slightly from piece to piece. That is a normal part of the handmade process, not a fault.
