A Ribbed Take on a Simple Shade

The Upton shade keeps things straightforward: a single, tapered piece of ribbed glass that lets the ribbing catch and scatter the light rather than showing a plain smooth surface. It's hand blown in the UK, and its slim profile makes it easy to use on its own or repeated along a run.

Four Finishes to Choose From

Whichever finish you choose, the ribbed glass and its shape stay the same. Antique brass leans warm and slightly aged, polished brass takes that warmth and brightens it right up, nickel gives a cooler and more modern look, and bronze is the darkest of the four, closer to a deep gunmetal than a true bronze. Since each fitting is hand coloured, no two are ever perfectly identical.

How It Works

It runs on a single E27 bulb, up to 8W LED, not supplied, and is dimmable with a compatible dimmer and bulb. It comes with 1m of black twisted flex as standard, finished at the ceiling with a 6.5cm plate.

Where It Works Best

At 250mm tall and 150mm wide, it works well as a single drop beside a bed or over a small table, or spaced in twos and threes above a kitchen island or dining table. Fritz Fryer has been based in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, since 1982, when the business began by restoring old lights brought in from around the UK and Europe. The glass is still hand blown and the metalwork still hand coloured today, piece by piece, which is why small details like an air bubble or a slight shade shift from one fitting to the next are simply part of how it's made.
