Three Lights, Softened With White Glass
This version of the Upton bar swaps clear glass for white, so the light spreads more evenly and softly across the three shades rather than showing the bulb directly. It keeps the same single bar design, just with a gentler finish to the light itself.
Three Finishes, One Bar
The white shades are constant, so the finish choice sits with the bar and fittings: antique brass, bronze or polished brass. Antique brass and polished brass both read warm, with polished brass the brighter and shinier, while bronze is the darkest, closer to gunmetal than a true bronze. Since the metalwork is hand coloured, small variation between individual bars is normal.
How It Works
The three lights are hand assembled onto a single bar, so they run from one electrical point rather than three. It takes 3 x E27 bulbs, max 8W LED each, not supplied, and is fully dimmable with compatible bulbs and a dimmer switch. The bar is 1400mm wide, with a choice of drop heights from 600mm up to 1200mm.
Where It Works Best
Like the clear glass version, this is built for a kitchen island or a long dining table, where the softer white light spreads more evenly along the run. It reads as one fitting rather than three separate lights competing for attention.
Made By Fritz Fryer
Fritz Fryer's workshop in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, has been running since 1982, starting out by restoring old lights bought from around the UK and Europe. That same care carries through today, with glass still hand blown and metalwork still hand coloured piece by piece, so no two bars are ever completely identical. Even the shade names nod to the area, with Upton, like Hereford and Ledbury, taken from a nearby Herefordshire town.

Questions People Ask
Can I return this if I change my mind?
No. Every bar is made to order in your chosen finish, so it is non-returnable unless it arrives faulty or damaged.
How long will it take to arrive?
It is handmade to order in Fritz Fryer's Herefordshire workshop. Exact lead time depends on the current order queue and is confirmed when you place your order.
Can I use this in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20, so it is only suitable for dry indoor rooms.
Why might mine look different from the photos?
Because the glass is hand blown and the metalwork hand coloured, small variations such as tiny air bubbles or subtle shade differences are normal, not a fault.
