Flambeau Birdland Single Table Lamp - Gold Leaf & Cream

A table lamp built around texture, stripes and a sculpted star base

The Birdland single table lamp has a lot going on beneath its striped shade, and that's rather the point. The body is a melange of narrowing stems finished with a crackled putty texture and a washed, aged look, rising from a two-tier, star shaped base set with crystal accents. Above it sits a shade striped in gold leaf and cream, tying the whole piece together.

The crackled putty base has an intentionally aged, textured surface, while the shade repeats the gold leaf and cream striping so the two halves of the lamp read as one considered design rather than a base with a shade added as an afterthought. It's a decorative piece as much as a light source, at home in a room that already has some character to play off.

How it works

This is a single light table lamp. It doesn't come with a bulb, so you'll need to pick one up separately. Fitting a lamp like this is straightforward, though as with all our lighting we'd always recommend using a qualified electrician if you're at all unsure.

Where it works best

Its scale and detail suit a side table, console or bedside spot where it can be appreciated up close, a living room, bedroom or study rather than a purely functional corner. It's designed for indoor use.

The story behind Flambeau

Flambeau began in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2000, when businessman Joe McKearn turned a chance discovery into a company. He'd seen a table lamp in a friend's design studio the previous year, made by Paul Gruer, a designer who'd left fine jewellery behind to create custom lamps, sconces and chandeliers with a distinctly New Orleans character. McKearn licensed Gruer's work under the Flambeau name, and pieces built around texture and sculptural detail, like this Birdland lamp, have been part of the range ever since.
