A single industrial cage, scaled down

The Urban Renewal single mini pendant brings the same factory inspired cage design to a smaller, single drop fitting. Like the rest of the collection, it takes its character from early twentieth century industrial lamps, where the wire cage protected the bulb rather than decorated it, as it does here.

Weathered Zinc finish

Weathered Zinc gives the fitting a cooler, more muted tone than the Astral Bronze pieces in the collection, with a slightly aged look that suits an industrial or utilitarian scheme. The smaller scale makes it well suited to hanging in multiples, spaced along a run of worktop or a bar.

How it works

This fitting uses an Edison style lamp, which isn't supplied, so you'll need to add one that sits visibly within the open cage. As with any pendant, we'd recommend a qualified electrician handles the wiring in, especially if you're hanging several in a row.

Where it works best

This smaller pendant suits a kitchen island, breakfast bar or a run above a bar counter, and is equally at home in restaurants and bars looking for that same industrial character. It's an indoor design throughout, so it belongs in covered spaces rather than anywhere exposed to the weather.

The story behind Feiss

Visual Comfort & Co. is now home to the Feiss design heritage, a brand Elstead Lighting has represented across the UK and Europe since 2012, adapting its ranges to run on 220 to 240V. Feiss itself dates to 1955, when Murray Feiss started a small lighting business in the South Bronx around imported European porcelain figurines wired into lamp bases, the shades hand sewn by his mother Rose. Three generations of family ownership grew that business into one of America's best known decorative lighting names, taking in chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings. Urban Renewal takes its character from the functional, industrial lamps once used in early twentieth century factories and workshops, and this is the smallest version in the range, its wire cage kept as a purely decorative touch.
