A Parisian style lantern for a side door or porch

The Shepherd single small wall lantern takes its cue from traditional Parisian gas lanterns, with a decorative shepherd's crook at the top, a latched and hinged front door panel, and a mix of inner Case White glass and Clear Seeded outer glass that recreates the soft, flickering look of old gas lighting. It's the smallest fitting in the Shepherd range, sized for a porch, side entrance or anywhere a full sized front door lantern would be too much.

Dark Weathered Zinc finish and composite build

Finished in Dark Weathered Zinc, this lantern has a muted, aged metal look that suits both traditional and more understated modern exteriors. It's made from a weather resistant composite material rather than bare metal, chosen for its durability against the elements over time.

How it works

The hinged front panel lifts open on its latch to give access for changing the bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one to your order. As with all outdoor fittings, we'd recommend a registered NICEIC electrician handles the installation and makes sure the wall mounting and cable entry are properly weathersealed.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, it's built for covered outdoor spots such as porches, canopied entrances and outbuildings, rather than fully exposed positions in direct, driving rain. Its smaller scale makes it well suited to a side door, garden gate or anywhere a subtle, traditional lantern is wanted rather than a large architectural statement.

The story behind Feiss

Murray Feiss founded the business in 1955 out of the South Bronx, building it around imported European porcelain figurines wired into lamp bases, each one finished with a shade hand sewn by his mother Rose. Under three generations of family management, it grew into one of America's most recognised decorative lighting names, spanning chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings, and its design heritage is now part of Visual Comfort & Co. Elstead Lighting has adapted the collections for UK and European wiring at 220 to 240V since 2012. Shepherd takes its cues from the gas lanterns once common on Parisian streets, here reworked into a weather resistant fitting built for outdoor use.
