A statement Parisian style lantern for a grand entrance

The Shepherd single extra large wall lantern is the biggest fitting in the range, built on the same traditional Parisian lantern design as the rest of the collection, with a decorative shepherd's crook, a latched and hinged front door panel, and a mix of inner Case White glass and Clear Seeded outer glass that gives it the look of a vintage gas lamp. Its scale makes it a genuine architectural feature rather than a purely functional light.

Dark Weathered Zinc finish and composite build

Finished in Dark Weathered Zinc, it has an aged, muted look that suits grander period properties as well as larger modern homes with plenty of wall space either side of the door. It's made from a weather resistant composite material, chosen for durability rather than the upkeep that solid metal can demand outdoors.

How it works

The hinged front panel opens on its latch to give access for the bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one to your order. As with all outdoor fittings, we'd recommend a registered NICEIC electrician handles the installation and makes sure the wall mounting and cable entry are properly weathersealed.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, it's suited to covered outdoor spots such as porches, canopied entrances and outbuildings, rather than fully open positions exposed directly to driving rain. Given its size, it works best either side of a substantial front door or entrance where there's enough space for it to sit comfortably, rather than on a narrow porch or side door.

The story behind Feiss

Across three generations, what began as a single family business grew into one of America's best regarded decorative lighting names, its catalogue eventually running from chandeliers and pendants to wall and outdoor lights. The story starts in 1955, when founder Murray Feiss set up shop in the South Bronx, importing European porcelain figurines to wire into lamp bases, with his mother Rose hand sewing the shades that went over them. Visual Comfort & Co. now holds that design heritage, and since 2012 Elstead Lighting has brought it to the UK and Europe, adapting the wiring to 220 to 240V. Shepherd draws its inspiration from traditional Parisian gas lanterns, translated here into a weather resistant fitting for the outdoors.
