Feiss Redding Station 1 Light Medium Chain Lantern - Painted Distressed Bronze

A hanging take on the Redding Station lantern

Rather than sitting flush to the wall, the Redding Station medium chain lantern hangs from a length of chain, letting it drop down over a porch, portico or covered seating area. It keeps the same aluminium shade and prismatic glass panel as the wall mounted versions, just suspended rather than fixed.

Painted Distressed Bronze finish

Finished in Painted Distressed Bronze, it has a soft, weathered look that suits period properties especially well, and pairs naturally with stone, brick or painted timber porches. As with any distressed finish, slight variation between fittings is normal and part of the character.

How it works

This lantern doesn't come with a bulb, so you'll need to add one to your order. Being a chain hung fitting, it needs a ceiling or porch soffit to suspend from, and the aluminium body and prismatic glass are designed for outdoor use, with the collection carrying an IP44 rating. Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting should be installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where it works best

It works well hanging over a porch, portico, entrance or covered outdoor seating area, casting a warm pool of light below it rather than lighting a wall. Its IP44 rating means it's suited to covered outdoor spots rather than somewhere fully open to the weather.

The story behind Feiss

These days the Feiss name sits within Visual Comfort & Co., with Elstead Lighting handling the UK and European side since 2012, converting each design to 220 to 240V wiring. The brand itself dates back much further though, to 1955 and a small South Bronx workshop where Murray Feiss wired imported European porcelain figurines into lamp bases and his mother Rose hand sewed the shades. Three generations of family ownership later, Feiss had become one of America's foremost decorative lighting brands, its range stretching from chandeliers to outdoor fittings. Redding Station borrows its name and look from the platform lanterns once used on American railroad stations, reworked here into a chain hung lantern suited to porches and covered entrances.
