The Opera single torchiere floor lamp is built for uplighting, a tall traditional silhouette with intricate metalwork detail finished in Firenze Gold. A large amber glass shade sits at the top, casting a warm glow up and across the ceiling rather than down onto a surface below.

The Firenze Gold finish picks out the intricate metalwork detail along the stem and base, giving the piece an antique, gilded quality, while the amber glass shade adds warmth to the light itself rather than a cooler white spread.

How it works

This lamp does not come with a bulb, so you will need to add one to your order. As a freestanding torchiere it plugs straight into a wall socket, with no installation needed, though given its height we would suggest a second pair of hands when positioning it.

Where it works best

As an uplighter, Opera works well in a living room or hallway corner where you want ambient light bounced off the ceiling, rather than as a dedicated reading lamp.

The story behind Feiss

Feiss began in 1955, when Murray Feiss set up a small lighting business in the South Bronx, building lamps from imported European porcelain figurines and having the shades hand sewn by his mother, Rose. Three generations of family ownership later, the business had become one of America's best known decorative lighting names, its range spanning chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings, with the heritage now part of Visual Comfort & Co. Elstead Lighting has represented Feiss in the UK and Europe since 2012, adapting designs such as this Opera floor lamp to 220 to 240V electrics. Opera is one of the more traditional, decorative pieces in the range, built around intricate gilded metalwork and a large amber glass shade.
