An industrial edged chandelier built for the kitchen island
The Hobson 3 light island chandelier takes the utilitarian pendant lighting of early twentieth century American factories and workshops and reworks it for the modern kitchen. Three drop pendants hang from a shared bar, each topped with a pivoting fitter that nods to the working hardware the design is drawn from, and each wrapped in seeded glass that softens and scatters the light.
Aged brass finish
In Aged Brass, the metalwork has a warm, slightly weathered tone that leans into the fitting's industrial roots rather than polishing them away. It works well over an island or breakfast bar in a kitchen with reclaimed wood, exposed brick or dark cabinetry, and equally in a more eclectic scheme looking for a bit of texture overhead.
How it works
The three pendant heads do not come with bulbs, so you will want to add three to your order, choosing a size that sits comfortably within the seeded glass and pivoting fitter. As with all our lighting, we would recommend a qualified electrician handles the wiring in, particularly for a multi drop fitting like this one.
Where it works best
This is a kitchen island light first and foremost, hung at worktop height over an island or peninsula, though the three separate drops also suit a run above a long dining table. It is an indoor fitting throughout, so it is suited to kitchens, dining rooms and open plan living spaces rather than anywhere exposed to the weather.
The story behind Feiss
The Feiss name today belongs to Visual Comfort & Co., while Elstead Lighting has handled the UK and European side of the business since 2012, adapting collections such as Hobson for 220 to 240V electrics. Rewind to 1955, though, and Feiss was just Murray Feiss and a small South Bronx workshop, building lamps around imported European porcelain figurines with shades his mother Rose sewed by hand. Three generations later, that workshop had become one of America's best known decorative lighting names, its output spanning chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings. Hobson itself is a direct nod to the industrial utility lighting of early twentieth century American factories and workshops.
