Feiss Galena 4 Light Chain Lantern - Sable

A hanging chain lantern for porches and canopies

Rather than mounting flat against a wall, the Galena 4 light chain lantern hangs from a chain fixed to a covered ceiling, suited to porches, entrance canopies and carports where a suspended light works better than a wall fitting. Its four lit panels of seeded glass give a fuller spread of light than the single light wall lanterns in the range.

Sable finish

The Sable finish has a deep, near black tone that sits quietly against most exterior materials, letting the seeded glass and the shape of the chain fitting do the visual work.

How it works

This fitting does not come with a bulb, so you will need to add some to your order, up to four if you want every panel lit. Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician, and for a suspended fitting like this, that also means a secure chain fixing as well as correctly sealed outdoor wiring.

With an IP44 rating, it is built for covered outdoor spaces such as porches, entrance canopies and carports. Because it hangs, it needs a sheltered ceiling point rather than a fully open position exposed directly to the weather.

The story behind Feiss

Rose Feiss hand sewed the shades for the earliest lamps her son Murray built in the South Bronx in 1955, wiring them around imported European porcelain figurines to start what would become the Feiss name. Three generations later, that small family business had become one of America's best known names in decorative lighting, with a range stretching from chandeliers and pendants to wall lights and outdoor fittings, and its design heritage now sits within Visual Comfort & Co. Elstead Lighting has represented Feiss in the UK and Europe since 2012, adapting its ranges, Galena included, to 220 to 240V electrical systems. Galena itself takes a pared back approach to the outdoor lantern, built around clean lines and seeded glass rather than heavier ironwork or period detailing.
