The English Bridle pillar lantern is the shortest and stockiest of the collection's ground standing fittings, a bollard style light built to sit low along a path or driveway edge rather than stand tall like a lamp post. It carries the same paned frame and clear seeded glass as the rest of the range, just set closer to the ground, where it lights the way underfoot rather than the wider garden.

British Bronze finish

In British Bronze, this low level pillar lantern takes on a warm, aged brown tone that sits unobtrusively among borders and path edging, rather than drawing the eye the way a brighter finish might.

How it works

This pillar lantern takes three bulbs, none of which are included, so you will need to add them to your order. Like the pedestal lights in the range, it fixes into the ground rather than a wall, with cabling run underground to the fitting, so a registered NICEIC electrician is the right person to handle the installation and check the wiring is properly weatherproofed.

With an IP44 rating, confirmed for this style of fitting across the English Bridle range, it is built for open, ground level positions such as a path edge or driveway border, where a low light is more useful than a tall one. It works well spaced along a path or lining the edge of a drive.

The story behind Feiss

Rose Feiss hand sewed the shades for the earliest Feiss lamps, the finishing touch on pieces her son Murray built around imported European porcelain figurines wired into lamp bases in the South Bronx back in 1955. The company he founded grew, across three generations, into one of America's best known decorative lighting names, its range eventually stretching to chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings, and today its design heritage sits within Visual Comfort & Co. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has represented Feiss in the UK and Europe, adapting its designs, English Bridle among them, for 220 to 240V electrical systems. English Bridle draws its own inspiration from the English countryside and the coach lanterns of a traditional stately manor, available in British Bronze or Black.
