The Cotswold Lane 2 light medium chain lantern hangs from a chain rather than mounting flush or to a wall, giving it more presence on a porch ceiling and a slightly more traditional, coaching inn feel. It keeps the antique gas lantern look shared across the collection, with architectural moulding over clear bevelled glass.

Finished in black, it has the same formal, traditional character as the rest of the Cotswold Lane range, with the clear bevelled glass adding sparkle as it catches the light. The chain suspension gives it a slightly different silhouette to the wall mounted and flush versions, sitting lower and more centrally under a porch.

How it works

This lantern doesn't come with bulbs, so you'll need to add two to your order. As it's an outdoor ceiling fitting hung on a chain, we'd recommend a registered NICEIC electrician handles the installation and checks the ceiling fixing and cable entry are properly weathersealed.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, it's suited to covered outdoor spots such as porches and entrance canopies rather than open positions exposed directly to the weather. It works well centred over a porch or entrance where there's enough headroom for a hanging fitting.

The story behind Feiss

American lighting brand Feiss began life in 1955 in the South Bronx, where Murray Feiss wired imported European porcelain figurines into lamp bases and his mother Rose hand sewed the shades that went over them. Three generations of family ownership turned that small start into one of the country's best known names in decorative lighting, spanning chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings, a heritage that now sits within Visual Comfort & Co. Elstead Lighting has represented Feiss in the UK and Europe since 2012, adapting its ranges to 220 to 240V electrics, and this Cotswold Lane chain lantern reflects the collection's roots in the antique gas lantern, its architectural moulding and bevelled glass giving it a more formal, traditional character than some of Feiss's plainer outdoor designs.
