The story behind Feiss

Feiss was founded in 1955 by Murray Feiss, who set up a small lighting business in the South Bronx, New York, built around imported European porcelain figurines wired into lamp bases, their shades hand sewn by his mother, Rose. Three generations of the same family carried the business forward from there, growing it into one of America's best known names in decorative lighting, with chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings all eventually part of the range. The Feiss design heritage now sits within Visual Comfort & Co., and since 2012 Elstead Lighting has represented the brand in the UK and Europe, adapting its designs for 220 to 240V electrical systems. Augustine is one of the simpler, more traditional pieces within that range, built around its Antique Brown finish and ivory linen shade rather than any more elaborate design story.
