A quiet reading light that keeps to itself
The Faro Suau is a minimalist recessed wall light built around one clear idea: put a focused pool of light exactly where you want to read, and nothing more. A slim cylindrical spot sits on a flat rectangular backplate and tilts to aim its beam, so the light falls on the page rather than washing across the whole room. It is the work of Nahtrang for Faro Barcelona, and the restraint is deliberate. Designed as a bedside reading light, it does its job without becoming the focal point of the wall.
The black finish
This version wears a matt black finish across both the backplate and the spot arm, giving it a low, graphic presence that reads almost as a shadow when the light is off. It suits darker or moodier interiors, a painted feature wall, or a headboard where you want the fitting to recede rather than gleam. Against a pale wall it becomes a crisp rectangular accent. Where a brass or nickel Suau would catch the light and draw the eye, the black finish does the opposite, settling back and letting the beam do the talking.
How it works
The light source is an integrated 3W LED, so there is no separate bulb to buy or replace and nothing to match on cap type. Faro lists it as a warm 3000K colour temperature at around 140 lumens, which is the gentle, cosy tone you want last thing at night rather than a bright task white. A small switch sits on the backplate itself, so you can turn the reader on and off from the bed without reaching for a wall switch. There is no separate dimmer function; the light is controlled by that on/off switch. As a recessed, mains fed fitting it is wired into the wall, and Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where it works best
The Suau is at its most natural flanking a bed, one on each side, giving each person their own directable reading light without a pair of bedside lamps eating into the nightstand. It works equally well beside an armchair in a snug or reading corner, or anywhere you want a discreet, adjustable light spot rather than general room lighting. Because it is a dry room indoor fitting, think bedrooms, living spaces and hallways rather than anywhere exposed to damp.
A note on Faro Barcelona
Faro Barcelona is a Spanish lighting company that commissions its collections from industrial designers and architects. The Suau reflects that approach: considered proportions, a clean metal body and an integrated LED module rather than an off the shelf lamp holder.

Questions People Ask
Can the Faro Suau be dimmed?
No. The Faro Suau is switched on and off from the backplate but has no separate dimmer, so the brightness stays fixed at around 140 lumens.
What cut out size does the Faro Suau need for installation?
The Faro Suau needs a wall cut out of 8cm by 15.5cm to sit flush as a recessed fitting, so it is worth checking this against the wall before ordering.
How bright is the Faro Suau, and what is it good for?
Faro states the Suau puts out around 140 lumens at a warm 3000K, which is enough for a focused reading spot beside a bed or chair rather than for lighting a whole room.
Can the Faro Suau be angled to change the direction of the beam?
Yes. The cylindrical spot on the Faro Suau tilts on its arm, so the beam can be aimed at the page rather than spilling across the rest of the room.
