The Faro Steps is a modern outdoor wall light built around two slim cylindrical tubes set side by side at different heights, giving the fitting its distinctive stepped, offset silhouette. Each tube is open at the top and bottom, so light escapes both upwards and downwards to wash the wall above and below the fitting. With two double tubes together the Steps carries four lamps in all, casting a broader, more sculptural spread of light than a single up and down tube, and bringing real architectural presence to an exterior wall once the light fades.

The dark grey finish

This version wears a dark grey, anthracite toned finish with a fine textured surface that reads as quietly contemporary. The muted grey settles comfortably against brick, render, stone or timber cladding and holds its own on both pale and dark walls, while the clear tempered glass diffusers set into each open end keep the look crisp and unfussy. How it works

The body is made from die cast aluminium with tempered glass diffusers, a pairing chosen to cope with outdoor conditions. It is wall mounted on a flat back plate and takes four GU10 bulbs, one at each open end of the two tubes, so light is thrown up and down the wall. The bulbs are not included, which lets you choose the brightness and colour temperature that suit your setting, and each lamp holder takes up to 8W. This is a mains powered, hardwired fitting, so Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where it works best

The twin up and down throw makes the Steps a natural choice for framing a front door, marking an entrance or drawing the eye along a façade, garden wall or driveway. Fitted singly, in pairs or in a run, it suits terraces, porches, courtyards and boundary walls, and the four lamp output gives it more definition than a slimmer single tube light. The Steps is designed by Estudi Ribaudí for Faro Barcelona, a Spanish lighting company from Barcelona that designs its own collections and engineers its outdoor ranges for weather resistance.
