The Spy 145 is a compact, purposeful outdoor spotlight from Faro Barcelona, made to pick out the parts of a garden that deserve attention after dark. Two slim cylinders sit side by side on a circular base plate: one holds the driver and body, the other is a spotlight head that tilts and turns on a pivot so you can aim a clean beam exactly where you want it. It is a directional light rather than a decorative lantern, the sort of fitting that quietly does its job at night and stays discreet in daylight.

The dark grey finish

This version wears an anthracite dark grey finish over an aluminium body, a neutral tone that recedes against stone, render, timber and planting rather than competing with it. It suits contemporary exteriors and older properties alike, and it coordinates naturally with other dark grey garden fittings for a considered scheme. The 145 is the compact frame in the Spy family, small enough to tuck beside a plant or at the foot of a wall while still throwing a confident, focused beam.

How it works

Light comes from an integrated LED rated at 6W with a warm 3000K colour temperature, so the glow is soft and inviting rather than cold or clinical. Faro states an output of around 470 lumens. Because the LED is built in, there is no bulb to buy or replace. The head adjusts through a wide arc for precise aiming, and the fitting mounts through its circular base plate to either a wall or the ground, with a trailing supply cable for the mains connection. As this is a mains fitting, Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where it works best

The Spy 145 is at home grazing light up a facade, washing a feature wall, uplighting a specimen tree or shrub, or marking the edge of a path, terrace or driveway. Set low among planting it brings depth and shadow to a border, and fixed to a wall it works as a targeted accent or a pool of light over a doorway or step. It suits gardens, courtyards, porches and entrances where you want control over exactly where the light lands.

Weather resistance

The Spy 145 carries an IP65 rating, which means it is fully protected against dust and against low pressure water jets from any direction. In practical terms it stands up to driving rain and full exposure to the weather, so it can be sited out in the open rather than only under cover.
